Our consignment sales process is designed to be simple, transparent, and mutually rewarding, allowing you to monetize your vinyl records, CDs, reel-to-reel tapes, and cassettes without the hassle of managing individual sales.
When you consign with us, you retain ownership of your collection while leveraging our 20+ years of expertise, warehouse space, established customer base, and market expertise to maximize its value. We handle everything from professional pricing and visual presentation to offer negotiations, payment processing, product shipping, and final transaction reporting.
Once an item sells, we split the proceeds according to a pre-agreed percentage, helping your passion achieve the highest sales price while ensuring your music reaches fellow collectors who will truly appreciate it.
The Process
1 Inventory List
Although not mandatory, we suggest you supply us with a spreadsheet or document containing: Title, UPC Code, Genres, Condition, Known Artists, and Size of your collection. Sending over some clean photos of your collection is also very helpful.
2 Written Agreement
We will provide you with a written document outlining our scope of services, commission splits, sales reporting schedules, and payment timeframes. The agreement will be signed by both parties for your absolute protection.
3 Collection Intake
Once finalized, we will coordinate the physical relocation of your music collection to our climate-controlled warehouse for inventory processing, online store listings, and secure sales handling.
4 Live Listings
Your items go active and live inside our marketplace stores. You will receive active notifications as your listings go live so you can track your collection's marketplace visibility.
5 Sold - Shipped - Delivered
Once your item sells, we take complete care of processing secure payments, protective packaging, tracking, and safe shipping logistics straight to the buyer.
6 Pay Day!
We handle the math and cut you a check containing your proceeds based on our pre-agreed commission percentages. Sit back and watch your classic tracks turn into cash!
Frequently asked questions
Why Choose Us to Sell your Collection?
- You will net more money than trying to sell to a local record/CD store. Most stores pay 10-30% of retail value. SellMyRecords’ commission plans will net you more than that.
- We do all of the work. We have the process in place to photograph, list, process payments, and ship your items efficiently. Doing it yourself would require a tremendous amount of time, effort, costs (shipping, credit card processing, store fees, etc.), tax implications, and risks (incorrect grading & descriptions, fraud, reputational risk, etc.)
- SellMyRecords/Packrat Auctions has sold over 250,000 records has have twenty years of experience in both consignment sales and selling collectibles online. We have worked with every genre of music and know how best to market your items. We also have access to multiple databases of record sales history going back approximately 15 years. This ensures you get the highest price possible for your items.
How do I get my record/CD collection items to you?
- In-Person – A representative from SellMyRecords will visit the location of the collection. Collections of 200 pieces or less will be itemized on the day of retrieval. Larger collections will have a general list of items, and a complete inventory list will be generated once a full intake is completed. We will travel within a 700-mile Radius of Lexington, South Carolina (depending on the collection).
- Shipping – The consignor does have the option to ship the entire collection or in batches to our warehouse. The cost to do so is the responsibility of the consignor.
When do I get paid for items sold?
The buyer has 2 weeks to inspect the item and has the ability to initiate a return at any time. After 2 weeks, the consignor will be paid via the method chosen, and a list of sold items will be provided to the consignor. This list will include: The site on which the item was sold, the item or sales number, description, sale price, commission charged, and net to the consignor. This statement will be provided via electronic mail.
The process is repeated every 2 weeks until all sold items have been paid out to the consignor.
How long do items stay online for sale?
They can stay online as long as you would like them to. On eBay, the listings refresh automatically every 30 days. After approximately 2 months, SellMyRecords will begin lowering prices gradually. If SellMyRecords deems the item may not sell within 6 months, SellMyRecords may suggest returning the item to the consignor or facilitate donating or selling the item locally.
